Client Story: Jennifer

“Jennifer” is a single mother with a disabled child. She earns enough that she can care for herself and her child, but not enough to build up a reserve.

When Jennifer was laid off, she didn’t worry—with her skills she thought she would be quickly re-employed. But it took four months before she was fully employed again. During that time, she fell behind on both rent and utilities.

By the time she started her new job, her landlord had begun eviction due to months of unpaid rent.

Desperate, Jennifer came to Coastside Hope. Our case manager immediately called the landlord and asked for a short extension on the eviction action. The landlord had worked with us in the past and very kindly agreed to give us time to help Jennifer.

Working quickly, our case manager skillfully assembled all the documentation needed for rental and utility assistance. This includes a sustainable family budget, past-due notices and proof of income and need.

Jennifer was in tears when we told her the good news: We could help. She and her child would not be evicted.

Thanks to your support,
Coastside Hope kept Jennifer housed by paying her overdue rent and utility bills.
