On a cool coastal afternoon, a group of neighborhood supporters gathered at cozy Cameron’s pub to celebrate the success of Coastside Hope’s May 5th, 2015 SVGives fundraising campaign.

More than 3,700 neighbors rely on Coastside Hope’s free services every year. Neighbors come to Coastside Hope for food, assistance with rental and utility emergencies, online applications for government programs, tax preparation, citizenship classes, and so much more. According to the U.S. Census, there are about 23,000 people between Montara and Half Moon Bay, and more than 15% of them need our help every year. We work quietly in the background, helping the working poor, fixed-income seniors, and homeless neighbors who struggle daily to survive in our wealthy, high-rent area.

In turn, Coastside Hope relies on hundreds of volunteers, donors, and grantors. Private donors and fundraisers provide 20% of our annual funding, and volunteers give over 5,000 hours of service every year. Thank you.

Coastside Hope is only one of more than 850 Bay Area non-profits that participated in the 2015 Silicon Valley Gives fundraising drive. In true Silicon Valley fashion, competition for attention was intense. Leading up to and on the day of the event, all communication channels came alive. Snail-mail, radio, newspapers, e-blasts and social media were flooded with SVGives imagery and the #SVGives2015 hashtag. There were large events with major sponsors, and many small events like Coastside Hope’s.

We know that donors must choose where to allocate their hard-earned funds. Society’s needs are great, and many worthy organizations work hard to help those who need it. Thank you for choosing to support Coastside Hope. This year, we were given a $5,000 challenge grant by good neighbors Judy and Denis O’Leary. You responded magnificently to their challenge! Thank you for donating over $19,000, qualifying us to receive the generous O’Leary challenge grant! Your generosity ensures that our caring case managers are here to help vulnerable neighbors when they need it most. Thank you.
