Press Release – Coastside Hope New Location

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Coastside Hope Expands Services to Meet Growing Community Needs

Half Moon Bay, CA –  –

Coastside Hope, a cornerstone of the Coastside community for 48 years, is excited to announce its expansion to a new, bright and welcoming 8600 square foot facility. The move comes after nearly three decades in the current location in El Granada, where the growing demand for services has outpaced the available space.

“Our new location provides the space we need to expand and improve our services, making them more accessible to the community,” said Judith Guerrero, Executive Director. “We’ve seen the needs of our community grow, and we’re ready to meet those challenges with a new facility that supports our mission: necessities for today, opportunities for tomorrow.”

Enhanced Food Security Services: In the new facility, located at 248 Main Street in downtown Half Moon Bay, the food pantry, open every weekday, will triple its space compared to the current location, allowing Coastside Hope to provide a greater selection and stock for families in need. The demand for regular assistance with food security has doubled in the last five years, now serving 40-50 daily visitors. This number is expected to grow in the new, more accessible and visible location.

Enhanced Social Safety Net Services: Coastside Hope will now have the space to hire a new case worker, reducing wait times and providing more comprehensive support for our clients, particularly when a significant event affects many low-income workers at once, such as the closing of Bay City Flowers and the Cabrillo Seed Farm. They will also add a new Development Director to identify and expand existing foundation and grant funding to secure the organization’s ability to continue to grow and respond to safety net needs as they arise.

Enhanced Special Programs: For many years Coastside Hope has squeezed tax preparation services and citizenship classes into the old, cramped building lobby, and will now have dedicated space for these important services. The Adopt-A-Family program and Holy Family’s school backpack program will also have more breathing room for registrations.

Enhanced Partnerships: Coastside Hope is committed to collaborating with community partners to offer a range of vital services and will now have the space to leverage these partnerships to make new services more accessible to our clients. For example:

  • Digital Navigator Program: Partnering with the City of Half Moon Bay, Coastside Hope will now have dedicated space for a digital navigator to assist clients with the technology essential for education and support services access.
  • San Mateo County Services: Coastside Hope has partnered with various County departments to bring their services closer to Coastside clients quickly as needs arise, including vaccine clinics during the pandemic, benefits eligibility screening, and support for finding housing and providing household goods – still ongoing – for farmworkers displaced from mushroom farms following the 2023 tragedy.
  • New Consultation Services: Coastside Hope recently piloted the provision of immigration legal services to assess the local demand and will now have space for this and other expert consultation services to match low-cost service providers with clients in need in a local setting.

Over the next few years, Coastside Hope will run a capital fundraising campaign to help pay for the new building. If you know of any foundation that may provide grant support, please contact Judith, or if you would like to donate to the campaign, please visit www.coastsidehope.org.

“This move is not just about meeting today’s needs—it’s about building for the next 48 years,” Guerrero explained, “we are beyond excited to welcome our clients to our new home and improved service.”
