2018 Adopt A Family Thank You
Thanks to hundreds of donors, shoppers, and volunteer elves, the 2018 Adopt A Family program was very successful. In December 2018, Adopt A Family served 1,103 individuals in 347 households, including 574 children and 93 seniors. Board member Judy O’Leary refers to the Adopt A Family program as “an annual miracle.” This all-volunteer program began in 1980 by giving small baskets of food and gifts to low income neighbors. These humble beginnings explain why many refer to the program as “la canasta” – Spanish for “the basket.” Since then it has grown to a program that provides over a thousand low-income Coastsiders with new clothing, books, toys, infant car seats, and other items every year. Included below is a picture gallery courtesy of volunteer Ken Myers, who took all these great shots!
